PhotoRealistic™ vs Brush-Strokes
PhotoRealistic™ Style
Our artists evaluate your image then balance and enhance the color, then adjust the sharpness and contrast levels accordingly.
We repair minor imperfections and optimize for canvas. Choose this style when you want to maintain the integrity of the
original, when the photo has a group of people and the faces will be small or for landscapes with fine detail that you wish
to maintain.
Brush-Strokes Style
We follow the same process as photorealistic, then, using a specialized tablet and stylus create brushstrokes by hand to
give a beautiful painterly effect. Choose this when reproducing portrait style photo where the subject’s faces are prominent
or anytime you wanted the look of a traditional oil painting. Our most glowing testimonials are from customers who choose
this style.
Deciding between PhotoRealistic™ and Brush-Strokes is our most frequently asked question. If you’re still unsure,
place your order with the style you’re leaning toward. Then, in the comments section, ask us to call you with a
recommendation before we get started.

B&W and Sepia images
Select this option if you would like your color photo converted to black and white or sepia. Our artists know just
what to do to make the canvas look sharp and rich, as if it was originally photographed that way.
|
|
1.6 |
PhotoSplits™
This option allows you to take one photo and turn "Split it" into multiple canvases. These multiple panels when viewed
together reproduce the entire scene. Available in 3-panels or 4-panels. To order PhotoSplits™ click the order your
canvas button, then the PhotoSplits™ tab. Select either the 3 panel or 4 panel option and the overall size. That
is the size the panels would make if they were placed adjacent to each other and measured. Then, upload your image.

Photos. What do I need to know? |
2.1 |
Best file format, resolution and image size
Short answer: 300 dpi jpeg
Long answer: The resolution from most digital cameras works perfectly for our canvas product. If your camera is
5 mega pixel or higher and you've taken the photo at the highest setting you won't have a problem. If you're not sure
about any of that, you can check the file size by right clicking on your image, then, click on properties, where the
size will be displayed. Images that are 2 meg or higher are great. Images under 2 meg but higher than 700kb are almost
always workable, so go ahead and upload those. Files under 700kb may work if the canvas is not too large and the image
is clear, feel free to upload those as well with a note in the comments to contact you if there is an issue with
resolution. JPEG or TIF files are both OK. We'll always call you if there is an issue.
|
|
2.2 |
Working with traditional prints
Many of our canvases are created from traditional photographic prints (snapshots) and they turn out wonderfully.
You can scan your traditional print and upload it with your order or we can scan it for you. In that case’ please select
the “traditional print” option and we’ll send you a photo mailer.
A question that frequently arises is “Will I get it back? “ Absolutely. We are obsessive about taking care of our
customer’s property. That being said, we strongly recommend NEVER sending us a irreplaceable photograph. Packages can and
do get lost in transit and we would hate for you to lose a one of a kind image. If you have a treasured photo and no
negative or copy we suggest that you have a high quality duplicate made before sending it to us.
|
|
2.3 |
Image Preparation
1. We Prep: We will artistically crop your image so it works with the proportions of the canvas size you’ve selected. Sometimes the
image you send us just won’t work in the finished size you selected. If that’s the case we’ll call you with an alternative
solution. If you prefer, we can crop and reproduce only a portion of your photo. Please give us an accurate description of
the intended cropping in the comments section of the order form.
2. You Prep: If you prefer completing the final cropping and file preparation, send us a 150 dpi jpeg at final print size.

| For Gallery Wrap |
| |
Thin Gallery Wrap
Standard stretcher bars have a depth of ¾ inches. Your file therefore, needs to be 1 ½ inches
larger in both dimensions than the size of the face of the canvas. Using a 16 x 20 canvas as an example: The face of the
canvas is 16 x 20, the image needs to be 17 ½ x 21 ½.
|
 |
Thick Gallery Wrap
Museum stretcher bars are heavy duty, and twice as thick as standard bars.
They have a depth of 1 ½ inches. Your file therefore, needs to be 3.25 inches larger in both dimensions than the size of the
face of the canvas. Using a 16 x 20 canvas as an example: The face of the canvas is 16 x 20, the image needs to be 19.25 x 23.25.

Scanning tips
You can use a flat bed scanner to scan your image at 300 dpi resolution. Save the file in RGB mode using JPEG format with
the highest quality setting and lowest compression.
If you have an old photo and don't have a scanner, you can have your photo scanned into a 300 dpi JPEG digital file on a CD
at selected Kinko's stores, which you can then upload to us from your PC.
|
|
